I have been working in private practice in Auckland
since 2000, and as a clinical psychologist since
1992. I spent 7 years in the UK where I worked as a
psychologist with a wide range of adult mental
health issues, as well as doing ongoing training in
Cognitive Therapies, including Schema Therapy &
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and supervising
trainees. While in the UK I also trained in an
integrative approach for 5 years and bring
understanding and skills from this to interweave
with the Cognitive Approach.
Most recently I have completed a training in
Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples, and I find
this work to be both effective and rewarding . I am
also part of a group doing ongoing training in EMDR.
My style involves teaching skills to manage
problematic symptoms, and to identify unhelpful
thought patterns; along with emotional processing of
past issues to enable the development of new
pathways ahead for the future. |

I have 22 years experience in helping people
overcome their difficulties in a variety of settings
both in New Zealand and the UK. In the last 12 years
I have specialised in the use of cognitive behaviour
therapy (CBT) for treatment of Anxiety Disorders,
Depression and Substance Use Disorders. This
includes Panic Disorder, phobias obsessive
compulsive disorder, post traumatic stress and
generalised anxiety. These issues can occur
alongside problematic alcohol or other drug use or
depression. I have been involved in teaching and
supervision of other psychologists, as well as
research in the area of Anxiety Disorders with
anaphylaxis and substance abuse.
In working with survivors of traumatic events, I use
EMDR which, like CBT, is supported by extensive
research as a highly effective therapy. |
